OMG!

The Mojo Mixer is crazy!  I can't believe there's all those people there.  It's amazing how many people are here.  I'm so shocked...I thought there'd be 300 people tops.  I still need to go shower and change, but wow!

It's happening !

Great googamooga!  I can't believe this thing is happening.  Today.  TODAY!!!

I'm soooooooooo tired right now, but so incredibly wiped.  I didn't get to be until 2am and the alarm went off at 6am.  The funny thing is that I've been here since Tuesday and haven't even sat down to play a slot.  I totally want to play I Dream of Jeannie and can't dredge up the energy to actually go into the casino.

So, last night more Koslings showed up.  Throughout the day, I got to meet cedwyn and OrangeClouds115, teacherken, AndyT, worldwideellen, ever hopeful and Northwesterly, Doggie269 and shermanesq...I know I met other people (There's like 40 other people I know were here), but this is what I can remember going backwards from last night.  Everyone is so sweet.  This is so cool.

I have a ton of pics from yesterday that I forgot to upload.  I'll sneak that in today.  But I gotta go.

Rain, rain, rain

This is the billboard I get to look at from my room.

HAHAHA!

So...I get dressed this morning, thinking I look good...great...no FABOOlous and I head out to start buying the last minute things.  Well, I get a call from Shanna, "OH MY GOODNESS!  It's raining here!"  I looked out the Office Depot window and saw dry skies and tried to calm her.  "No, it's torrential over here at the hotel."  15 minutes later, it still wasn't raining, but it was muggy.  I drove to another store and while I was out there, WHOOOSH!  All this water from nowhere!  It was horrible.  Reminded me of the Great Southern California rains of '04.  The streets were actually flooded.  Yikers!

So it did the raining bit off and on for hours.  No one really digs that.  Especially vacationers in Vegas.  BUT, they don't really matter.  The locals were friggin' ecstatic.  Every store I went in, there were big smiles and ,"Thank goodness it's raining!".

Crazy.

Volunteers

The people who are here just rocked.  I walked into the room and saw all the books, bags, folders and all the little bits that were going in to the bags.  I was completely overwhelmed, but the volunteers just totally kicked ass.  I got back to the hotel around 3pm and thought that the bag stuffing would take about 8 hours.  Well, they were finished around 6 and loading the bags into the registration room.  WOW.  So now they're all in orientation and I should be down there, but I'm here. Blogging.

Holy Moly, we're here

I'm in Vegas.

For YearlyKos Convention 2006.

Yeah, I'm pretty stoked.  Scratch that...

I'm so flippin'  excited.  It still amazes me that this thing is happening.  It still amazes me that people still don't get that this event was put together by some of the most dedicated volunteers I've ever worked with in my life.

I have this blog to keep track of everything. I also bought a domain name, but I didn't have the time to fix it up, so that'll have to wait for a bit.  So here's a bit of a rundown.

After about 57 minutes of sleep, I landed in (ridiculously hot) Las Vegas at 8am, Tuesday morning.   I tried to check in, but it was early.  I parked my car at valet (across from where our Convention will be) and had the bell take my bags in.  Hey, none of that liberal elitist bullshit.  It's HOT, my bags are heavy and to take them from valet all the way through the hotel to registration is a hike.  So, I took advantage.

Gina, Nolan and I had a meeting with the hotel staff this morning.  I'm really comfortable that this team will be great to work with.  We ran through the whole convention and made some changes here, tweaked some stuff there.  After the meeting, I finally checked in to the hotel (the earliest you can check in is noon-ish if rooms are ready).  I have a very nice room. With a hair dryer.  I do not have a refrigerator in my room.  What makes this annoying, is not only did I ask for and have it confirmed that I will have a fridge in my room, but everyone else has a fridge in their room.  At any rate, I have a great view of the Stratosphere.  No matter how thrirsty I am.  I'm also having issues with my AC unit.  It won't go below 75 and that's more muggy in my room.  I'm hoping it's me and not my room because I've already unpacked and don't feel like moving to another room.

At any rate, it was my master plan to do some last minute shopping yesterday.  That so did not happen.  Since I had so little sleep, it was not safe for me to be driving anywhere.  So we worked the whole time.  I met siun from FireDogLake and Pontificator.  It was great to see Shanna again.  I got to meet our IT guy and we're so impressed it's not even funny.  The stuff they were hooking up.  WOW.  I should have brought my other computer with me to see if they could work on that on their down time.  HAHA  When I headed to be at 10:45pm, sterno had just announced that he was in Vegas, so I guess I'll see him in the morning.

siun, got her first look at the convention space and was blown away.  All this time talking about and it's kinda hard to wrap your head around just how cool this whole thing is.  I saw the space in June of last year and again in Jan. of this year and was thrilled.  Gina, Nolan, Shanna and Linda saw it for the first time in March and were very happy with the space (even the tacky carpet!)

That's it for Tuesday. Check out the photo album.  I'm going to create a Flickr account for these, but for now, we have this.
